DJ Smiles Davis got her start in the music industry as a professional dancer having nurtured her talent as a performer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, she also worked with Lauryn Hill as a movement coach and back up dancer for Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot. She soon discovered her talents on the wheels of steel and began acquiring early fans for her impeccable music sense. Several years working at legendary Indi record store Aomeba helped cement DJ Smiles Davis deep knowledge of music. Her transformation from professional dancer to DJ was a natural artistic progression that started when she was injured. Her rehabilitation led her to the turntables and there has been no turning back.  Her ecelectic mix tape series Many Styles has garnered her a large international fan base. The many styles mix series seamlessly blends Soul, Electronica, Rock, Hip Hop and anything else Smiles wants to play in a most unique way that only a true music visionary could. The feedback from the mix series has been phenomenal from a very diverse cross section of people from all walks of life. Among these fans are many of the industries elite tastemakers. Some of the highlights of Smiles still young career include a national McDonald’s commercial in which Smiles was featured along side nationally popular DJ Felli Fel. Smiles has opened up for an array of amazing artists and DJ’s including Z-Trip, Questlove, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Mayer Hawthorne, The Very Best, GZA, Fools Gold, Macy Gray, Bruno Mars, 9th Wonder, Mixmaster Mike, DJ Muggs,, Major Lazor, DJ Rashida etc. Smiles has done events for Stevie Wonder,  Ed Norton,  Nike, Fox Searchlight, Saks Fifth Ave, Bloomingdales, Armani Exchange, Miss Sixty, LAX ART, WPS , Activision, Puma, NAACP, Fatima Robinson,  Flaunt, Elle, Wax Poetics, Frank 151, Urb, Manifest Equality, Okay Player, Disney and the LA Notorious Première.

Smies continues to build her personel brand doing her first mixtape for an artist as she crafts the backdrop to super successful indi DC rapper Tabi Bonney’s next mixtape. She has started work on her first album of original production featuring different artists from all over the world and Smiles also now has a popular music blog on her old employer Amoeba records website.
