Little is known about South London producer SBTRKT. What we do know, though, is that he has a self-titled album dropping this summer. And its first single, “Wildfire,” dropped less than a week ago with its wobbly rhythms and guest vocals from Yukimi Nagano, of Little Dragon. Given its experimental nature, you wouldn’t expect a rapper to just jump on the track, find a pocket, and rhyme all over “Wildfire,” right?

Well, that is just what Tabi Bonney does here on his unofficial remix of the track. He locates SBTRKT’s head-nodding groove and attacks it with a cool bravado, which leads to shots like, “Overall, I’m over y’all/All y’all played out like overalls/Meanwhile your girlfriend on my balls/Laid that up like Pau Gasol.” Ouch.

The Washington, D.C.-based spitter wasn’t alone in crafting the remix, though. He received some help on here from his running pal on the turntables, DJ Smiles Davis. You might remember she was at the helm of the rapper’s previous project, Postcard From Abroad. And it turns out that their version of “Wildfire” will appear on Bonney’s forthcoming The Summer Years mixtape, which is due out soon.
